One of the first questions people ask about my specialization as a doctor. My moment of silence at this point, I guess prompts one to say – like a cardiologist, gynecologist like that…

If I say Ayurveda – most times I am boxed down to home remedies, tips, or a little more fancy – massage and steam 😉

When I say holistic medicine – there is a quizzical silence.

This led me to reflect upon my work for years to articulate a better comprehensible summary.

The clients that I worked with approached me with mostly their physical problems with acute conditions of illness that did not cure with much effort. ( Not traumas or emergencies usually)

The problems ranged from acute, undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, self diagnosed dispositions, who were on multiple medicines and have gone through several therapies, self remedies to over-the-counter (OTC) medications.

Some have approached me with behavioral issues, psychological struggles, relationship issues, stress, tension, and many more general terms that are prevalent. Most of these came rendering me with packets of information from the whole pile and expecting guidance and remedies for complete healing, cure, or to become normal.

Some seek validation for the fragmented modules that they chose. As ardent followers of one specific yoga or organic food and so on. I am whole and healthy. But I wanted to check why am I having this and that… It is not serious etc.

Some wanted others to change and expected me to tell their words to the other person – thinking that is what is counseling about.

The list goes on and on. The point I want to put across is that there is an immense variety of physical, psychological,  and behavioral patterns with their unique ways of getting out of the pain or struggles they are in and want to feel better.

I have worked with them with different modules, therapies, and strategies that best suit them and give a better longer-lasting result.

Overall this has been the most learning, empowering, and insightful journey for me. Quite a tough one yet worth every bit for me.

I have to say this kind of approach to health and wellness is tricky.

I have completely stopped a fragmented, categorized, general, and superficial approach, suggestive tips, random walk-in, or online prescriptive consultation services. These have been major trends in the health space and I understand it is detrimental. Hence I do not do this.

My approach is integral and considers treating one as a whole addressing the multiple dimensions that are interrelated in contributing to the issue that the person is going through.

“Understanding the level of comprehension of individuals before implementing any specialized program or treatment is at the heart of Dr. Sowmya’s approach to healthcare. Just as a nursery teacher tailors their teaching methods to suit the cognitive abilities of young children, or a university professor adjusts their lectures for graduate students, Dr. Sowmya gauges her patients’ understanding to provide the best possible care.

Consider a nursery child learning the basics of language. The teacher wouldn’t introduce complex grammar rules right away; instead, they start with simple words and phrases, gradually building upon them as the child’s comprehension grows. Dr. Sowmya adopts a similar approach, breaking down complex medical information into digestible chunks based on her patient’s level of understanding.

By assessing where individuals stand in terms of comprehension, Dr. Sowmya tailors her explanations and treatment plans accordingly. This personalized approach not only enhances understanding but also fosters trust and confidence in the doctor-patient relationship.

Moreover, Dr. Sowmya believes in providing insights from a super-specialized perspective, even at the earliest stages of treatment. Just as preventive measures in healthcare can avert major illnesses, early education about potential health risks and preventive strategies can mitigate future complications.

While it may seem tempting to simplify information to accommodate every individual’s understanding, Dr. Sowmya recognizes the value of specialized insights. These insights provide a comprehensive understanding of the bigger picture and offer solutions that go beyond temporary fixes. Though such expertise may come at a higher cost, it ultimately minimizes risks, reduces future expenses, and ensures the best possible outcomes for patients.

In essence, Dr. Sowmya’s care and compassion extend to recognizing and respecting each patient’s unique levels of comprehension while leveraging specialized insights to deliver optimal care and long-term health benefits.”

In the recent few years, I have evolved and refined my work.  A systematic approach offers several programs that fit the needs of the people regarding where they are in the aspect of health, time, and effort that they can put in.

There is a need to comprehend the expansive dimensions of living and embrace applying the wisdom of life. Anything other than this in the aspect of health and wellness will have its compounded consequences.  – Dr. Sowmya

With this purpose in mind, I begin the journey by selecting based on my discretion.

  1. Bringing in Clarity – Dive deep into Analysis
  2. Enabling by Enriching.
  3. Nourishing by Imparting.
  4.  Then we dive deep into exploring * exercises and activities * By this time an active participant will be able to comprehend the importance of various aspects of life and their implications on health and well-being.
  1. Every individual has challenges that are specific and unique to them. It requires mentoring, coaching, and critical inner work. Here is the need for one-to-one – coaching and consulting.
  2. Next would the group events- which dive into the generally incredibly important but hugely overseen aspects of living.

This gives you an idea of the systematic approach essential in the journey back to health.

We do not see the picture of our life with our eyes, but rather with our Mental Maps of the World. Hence designing a blueprint and creating maps of our own life plays a significant part. This is where the futuristic visionary skills of the coach are of prime importance.

This is designed to enable people to evolve and reach higher states of awareness and design the life of their dreams.

Over my years of clinical practice, this journey has given the most long-lasting sustainable results at whatever stage the person is. It enables a well-regulated approach at appropriate levels of triggers for every individual. It enables them to get in connections and harmony with the large picture of real-time, space, and socioeconomic environments which is inescapable. This empowers them with abilities to keep their emotional responses rather than reacting to most of the circumstances and situations along with life.

By the end of the program, they walk away with clarity, confidence, direction, path, and start moving and building forward.
